The Menopause Diaries 1

New Year, New Me… Or Just the Old Me, Slightly Sweatier

Follow the diary of a woman free-styling the rollercoaster phase known as perimenopause.

Hi, I’m Sam. I’m a 46 year old single mum, living in Bondi Beach and I’m officially in the rollercoaster phase known as perimenopause. Think less carefree beach goddess, more sweaty, slightly unhinged mess with a side of bloating that won’t quit.

Sudden weight gain? Check. Hot flushes, usually timed perfectly for parent-teacher meetings or romantic disasters? Oh, absolutely. Random anxiety spirals that make me question if I’ve accidentally been mainlining caffeine? Daily. And let’s not forget the mood swings. One minute, I’m channelling Zen goddess vibes, the next I’m sobbing into my cup of tea wondering where my waistline went.

But here’s the thing, I’m not fighting it. Not exactly. 2025 is the year I’m leaning in – not giving up, just giving myself a fighting chance before the big daddy Menopause arrives in full force. This year, it’s all about me (for once) and finding ways to feel like myself again, or at least a more balanced version of me.

So, join me as I embark on The Great Perimenopause Experiment. From skincare to stop my face from feeling dull and aged, to gut health and diets that don’t involve kale smoothies of doom, exercise routines I won’t actually dread, and self-help tools that go beyond bubble baths and journaling clichés.

I’m not here for a “new me” transformation, I’m here to reclaim the old me (just with better hydration and new routines). Let’s see if I can sail through this phase with humour, honesty, and maybe, just maybe, a waistline that makes a guest appearance again.

Here’s to the journey – hot flushes and all!
