FAQs

You will experience a sting, like the snapping of a small rubber band on the skin, each time the IPL hand piece is applied.

IPL Skin Rejuvenation treatments can be effectively used to treat skin concerns including: freckles, sunspots, blemishes and other hyperpigmented areas; acne (the light energy destroys bacteria colonising your skin); acne scars; sun damage and/or redness; broken capillaries; and uneven colouring. IPL Skin Rejuvenation treatments are suitable for clients with fair skin (types 1–3).

IPL Skin Rejuvenation treatments work by delivering intense pulses of light to the skin, creating heat energy that stimulates new collagen production. The light therapy process assists with unwanted pigmented skin, helps firm the skin and reduces pore size, resulting in more even-toned and brighter-looking skin.

IPL machines use a beam of light that is made up of a spectrum of different light wavelengths, like the rainbow, that goes from the colour blue to green to yellow. IPL uses different wavelengths to treat different skin conditions.

The light is transmitted through a small, smooth, flat glass hand piece which is gently placed over the skin. During the treatment, the chosen IPL wavelength is absorbed by the skin, stimulating fibroblasts (cells in connective tissue that produce collagen and other fibres).

If treating freckles, sunspots or other hyperpigmented areas, results will appear within weeks as the fragmented pigment is absorbed by the body, leaving little trace behind.

IPL Skin Rejuvenation can treat anywhere the sun has caused damage and abnormal pigmentation, e.g. the face, chest, neck and hands.

Immediately following your treatment, you may feel “sunburnt” and the treated area may be red for several hours. Clients who have pigmentation will notice the pigment darken after the treatment. The pigmentation will harden and flake off gradually over the following 2 weeks.

Improvements can be seen with every IPL Rejuvenation treatment, but a course of 4 – 6 treatments is recommended every 4 weeks for maximum benefits. For the best value and results, our Skin Journeys™ combine in-clinic treatments with at-home skincare.
