Cosmelan® treatment is ideal for anyone concerned with pigmentation, melasma, sun damage and hyperpigmentation caused from acne. It is safe to be performed at any time of year, on new or stubborn pigment deposits, all ages and skin colours.

How many treatments is best?

The number of required Cosmelan® treatment sessions depends on each individual client and their expectations. Generally, visiting our clinic once for the treatment should be enough if you commit to the at-home skincare regime. Your therapist can let you know if you require additional treatment.

Does it hurt?

There is little to no pain associated with this treatment. The following 5 days post treatment you may experience some, redness, heat, tightness and irritation.

What are the results?

Following your peel, you are expected to see fading, reduction or disappearance of melanin-based spots after 1 month of treatment. Your skin will be left renewed, brighter, and healthier looking from the 2nd week of treatment.

What can I expect after?

Directly following the treatment some swelling and moderate redness, peeling/flaking of the full face, stinging and tightness and moderate discomfort can be expected.
In the following two weeks, you will also notice the lightening of melanin concentration on your face.

What is a Cosmelan® Treatment?

Cosmelan® is the depigmentation method that provides an intensive corrective action and the appearance of skin hyperpigmentation while preventing the appearance of future skin discolouration. Cosmelan® is a unique combination of active ingredients of proven efficacy that targets the entire process of spot formation to reduce the appearance of melanin accumulation and reduce the appearance of new spots. The Cosmelan® method consists of 4-phases which are necessary to achieve the desired outcome. Intense depigmentation in-clinic in phase 1 and treatment for home use in phases 2, 3 and 4

What results should I expect after a cosmelan® treatment?

After the cosmelan peel, you can expect to notice some skin peeling on the treated areas. In the following two weeks, you will also notice the lightening of melanin concentration on your face. However, the result might vary from client to client, depending on the severity of the condition.

How often should you get a Cosmelan®?

What are the Cosmelan® contraindications?

A Cosmelan® treatment should not be performed on anyone with the following:
• Pregnancy or breast feeding
• Recent sunburn
• Allergies to any of the peel ingredients
• Used a prescription strength acne medication in the past 6 months
• Hydroquinone use in the past 3 months
• Active bacterial, viral, fungal infection
• Autoimmune disease affecting the skin
• Recent chemo or radiotherapy
• Recent skin surgery
• Jeloids or hypertrophic scarring
• Open or partly open wounds
• Active Acne
• Aspirin Allergy
• Rosacea
• Laser / IPL in the last 2-4 weeks
• Botox and filler in the last 4 weeks

What are the active ingredients in a Cosmelan® peel?

The peel is made of azelaic acid, retinoic acid, kojic acid, phytic acid, ascorbic acid, and arbutin.

Is a Cosmelan® peel safe for all skin types?

It is safe for all skin types, skin colors, and ethnicities.

When will I notice results?

What is the downtime for a Cosmelan® treatment?

Cosmelan® is an intensive treatment which you will need to plan anywhere from 5-7 days of downtime. Your skin will be red, swollen and warm for the first 3 days post treatment, and then peeling will begin. Peeling and dryness can be expected up to 5-7 days. Sun exposure is to be avoided during this time; and an SPF is a MUST to protect your skin and your results. All post care products are included in your treatment price which will help speed up the healing phase. Recovery timeline The recovery time for your cosmelan treatment depends on a few factors. It takes about a week to two weeks after the treatment for the dark spots to start fading away. In three to four weeks, your skin will appear cleaner, brighter, and healthier.
